Quadruple homicide suspect Daron Wint has been flagged for deportation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Wint allegedly broke into the multimillion dollar home of his former employer, Savvas Savopoulos, in Northeast D.C., where he held Savopoulos, his wife, their 10-year-old son and their housekeeper hostage overnight. After receiving $40,000 in ransom money, Wint allegedly killed his victims and set the mansion on fire.
Wint, 34, moved to the U.S. fourteen years ago from his birth nation of Guyana. Although it is rare for the ICE to issue a detainer, which requires jail officials to alert the ICE when an inmate is about to be released, so immigration officials can take him into custody, it is not unheard of, according to The Washington Times.
It is fairly rare to issue detainers against green card holders, according to ICE data analyzed by Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. Of nearly 950,000 detainers that ICE lodged during 50-month period covering fiscal 2008 through the start of fiscal 2012, only 28,489 were sought against legal permanent residents.
