Commentary by Jim Gilchrist

Dear America,

I commend President Donald Trump for doing what our so-called “government of the people” should have been doing for the past four decades: uphold the rule of law. He is the first president since Dwight Eisenhower to actually encourage immigration law enforcement.

Although I lauded Ronald Reagan as a great president, in retrospect his administration created our nation’s current illegal alien invasion dilemma when he granted “amnesty” to almost three million illegal aliens in 1986. Such amnesties only encourage more of the same and will never stop illegal immigration.

If we are to take U.S. laws seriously, then we have to actually enforce our laws, including the deportations of all persons residing on U.S. territory in blatant defiance of our laws.

While the entire Democrat Party whines mindlessly about separating families if immigration laws are enforced, we should remember that there are over one million American citizens in prisons who also have been involuntarily separated from their families for breaking laws.

If we are to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, then it would be appropriate to release all prisoners confined in U.S. prisons into the streets as well.

Past White House administrations created the illegal alien invasion mess. President Trump is only trying to follow in President Eisenhower’s steps and reverse the continuing insult to our nation’s heralded stature as a “nation of laws.” God speed to him.
