46 so-called DREAMers, illegal immigrants granted amnesty by President Obama, have already been enlisted into the U.S. Army and Obama Administration officials hope to jack that number up to 5,000 by October.
The Defense Department ordered the Army to begin accepting illegal immigrants who qualify for DACA into the program last year, but that effort stalled since the program was not created to accept people without legal papers.
The program, called Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI), was meant to recruit people with medical training or who speak a critical language, such as Mandarin, Urdu or Arabic.
Obama’s Department of Defense just jumped the gun since Congress is working on a plan to allow illegals to join the U.S. military anyway.
Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) got an “amnesty amendment” attached to the 2016 defense authorization bill which would allow illegals to join and get a fast track towards citizenship.
The amendment passed the House Armed Services Committee by a 60-2 vote.
Now:
a group of 25 House Republicans asked the Rules Committee to remove the amendment, saying it threatened the passage of the bill, which authorizes Pentagon activities and spending.
“This controversial immigration language greatly increases the risk of the [bill’s] failure to pass the House. The Rules Committee has the power, and indeed the duty, to prevent such a threat to our national security,” said a letter led by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.). Brooks, an Armed Services Committee member, was one of two ‘no’ votes against the defense bill.
Congress and the U.S. Army are telling the world if you speak Arabic and sneak into the United States illegally, we will let you join the military and give you fast track towards citizenship. I cannot see how that could possibly be a security threat since I’m sure they will do all the necessary background checks and ensure the illegal immigrant is not a member of ISIS.
