Majority of Immigrants Take Welfare Says New Study

51% of immigrant households, legal and illegal, accessed welfare programs according to a new study. Only 30% of native American households accessed welfare.welfare

“The [Survey of Income Program Participation] shows that households headed by immigrants use welfare at significantly higher rates than natives, even higher than indicated by other Census surveys,” said Steven Camarota, a director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies.

“Overall we found that in 2012 of all immigrants, legal and illegal, 51 percent of households accessed one or more of the major welfare programs, typically two or three at a time,” he said. Less than one-third, or 30 percent of native-born households used at least one welfare program in 2012.

Immigrants use food assistance programs and Medicaid at much higher rates than those born in the United States. Forty percent of foreign-born households use food programs, compared to 22 percent of native-born Americans, and 42 percent of foreign-born households use Medicaid compared to 23 percent of natives.

Even long-term immigrants accessed welfare at far higher rates than native-born.

Immigrants continue to use government assistance programs years after arrival. Forty-eight percent of immigrant families have accessed welfare after two decades of being in the United States.

Native-born citizens are more likely than immigrants to work two or more jobs. Twenty-seven percent of native-born individuals say they work multiple jobs while 24 percent of foreign-born workers say the same.

This is not really news. Anyone with common sense knows that if people walk across the desert of the southwest with very little water, food, clothing, education or money to run away from their crappy third world country are going to destroy the so called “benefits” programs of the United States, putting even further strain on working tax paying LEGAL citizens. The only people that deny the truth and facts are the mentally unstable liberals and the phony ILLEGAL ALIEN “rights” defenders. It is all a lie and sham for the purpose of votes for the said mentally unstable liberal politicians so they can stay in control of those to stupid and ignorant to understand that they are actually voting against themselves and their own rights here in the country.

  2. Well said! They’re also going to destroy Social Security because of the Child Tax Credit they receive if they file a tax return. And the Democrats want to legalize all of the illegals claiming that they’ll pay income tax. Which is hardly the case, they’ll just qualify for more freebies.

  3. Clete Tacker says

Thank you. Yes, it’s all about what they can GIVE the ILLEGAL ALIENS at working tax payers expense so they can “buy” their votes with OUR money.

You guys must not know many immigrants if this is the view you take from the objective reality of what is happening.

  5. Clete Tacker says

So for some strange illogical reason you are saying that if we know enough ILLEGAL ALIENS that the FACT that more than half are on welfare will somehow change? The “reality” is that the United States is flooded with ILLEGAL ALIENS and it is a strain on the American citizen and system. And to pretend that using the word “immigrant” instead of ILLEGAL ALIEN changes the FACT that they are ILLEGAL ALIENS does not make it reality and is actually dishonest and delusional. And if I am not mistaken, you are the person who’s grandfather is or was an ILLEGAL ALIEN, I believe that is the reason or excuse you use to justify the ILLEGAL ALIEN fiasco in this country.

Thanks for the reply, and I can tell you are passionate about immigration. I am too. What I am saying is that I have the opportunity to encounter and meet many “illegal aliens.” The majority of them are not using welfare, but work hard for what they have. Furthermore, many of the ones that I know who crossed the desert with little food and water, did so to escape mind boggling persecutions, such as murder, rape, and extortion. They crossed that desert in search of a better life, and with nothing to start with in the United States, and through hard work have done so. Their intentions were never to get a hand out in the US, but rather to have a chance for a better life through opportunity (there is a great difference here). I agree that the US is being flooded with illegal aliens, but I see greater positive than negative from this, not just for me and America, but those coming here also.

Next, you seem to want precision with the explanation of the status of those here from other countries. I have a few ideas of how better to label them in light of the desired precision; visa overstays, entrants without inspection, entrants without status, entrants present without inspection, to name a few. These seem to be more precise according to how the Immigration and Nationality Act would define them, which I assume you are familiar with, as it is the governing law over immigration in the United States, and you seem passionate about immigration.

Lastly, yes my grandfather was an “illegal alien,” but as I must explain again, that is not the experience that defines my views on immigration. First I know many visa overstays, entrants without inspection, entrants without status, entrants present without inspection who are great people and actually make this nation stronger. Furthermore, I feel proud that I live in a Nation that has the potential to give them a new hope on life. I have lived on four different continents, and I understand why people would want to come to the US. Because I am talking about why I support immigration I have to explain that I believe we are all of one race, the human race, and to, at times, arbitrarily deny people the liberty to traverse the world because of borders drawn by man seems silly sometimes. I support human beings.

The United States is being destroyed from within, in part due to the MILLIONS of ILLEGAL ALIENS, and if you can’t see the devastation to the country with your liberal views you are blind and or denial.

  8. Please elaborate how the US is being destroyed by visa overstays, entrants without inspection, entrants without status, entrants present without inspection. I am not sure I agree with that notion. Furthermore you assume I am a liberal and have liberal ideas, and that I am blind and/or in denial. Those are pretty serious accusations.

  9. Clete Tacker says

Entrants? Lol. You are still amusing liberal excuse maker. Now they are entrants? I thought we were talking about ILLEGAL ALIENS. I didn’t make any serious accusations, I stated fact. I will state FACT again, ILLEGAL ALIENS are a huge strain, financially, criminally, culturally, on the hard working tax paying LEGAL American citizens, and if you don’t see the devastation it is causing in the country you are blind AND in denial. Now leave me alone and push your liberal nonsense elsewhere.

I am sorry you would like this conversation to end, I have found it to be constructive, minus the personal attacks. I will just end with a couple of points. First, as I am sure you know The Immigration and Nationality Act is law in the United States that governs immigration. In the act it references foreigners who are visa overstays, entrants without inspection, and entrants present without inspection. That is how the law refers to those individuals and those are their crimes or civil infractions for which they may be removed from the United States. If that is how the law refers to them that is how I will refer to them.

Next you state, and I quote “You are still amusing liberal excuse maker.” My best estimation tells me that you meant to say “You are still an amusing liberal excuse maker,” or “You are still amusing, liberal excuse maker.” In any event, I believe that when it comes to immigration you are the one that seems to be liberal. The way I understand it, liberals desire bigger government, greater bureaucracy, and more regulation. This seems to be what you want. On the other hand, I want less government intrusion, less bureaucracy over immigration, and less regulation. Furthermore, I believe in the less economic liberal idea of capitalism. Capitalism encourages, competition and less government regulation. In that line of thought, capitalism would promote jobs going to the most qualified individual, without regard to the location that person was born, but is merit based. I believe in the most qualified individuals getting jobs. Let employers choose who they want to hire, not the federal government through regulation. So, I believe that I come out more conservative than your position with respect to immigration.

Next, you claim that immigration is a strain on the American taxpayer, to quote you:

“…strain, financially, criminally, culturally, on the hard working tax paying LEGAL American citizens, and if you don’t see the devastation it is causing in the country you are blind AND in denial.”

I respectfully disagree to find merit in your argument. I agree with then Chariman Greenspan (known as a conservative, and appointed by a conservative President) who stated in a Senate Hearing:

“But there is little doubt that unauthorized, that is, illegal, immigration has made a significant contribution to the growth of our economy. Between 2000 and 2007, for example, it accounted
for more than a sixth of the increase in our total civilian labor force. The illegal part of the civilian labor force diminished last year as the economy slowed, though illegals still comprised
an estimated 5% of our total civilian labor force. Unauthorized immigrants serve as a flexible
component of our workforce, often a safety valve when demand is pressing and among the first to be discharged when the economy falters.

Some evidence suggests that unskilled illegal immigrants (almost all from Latin America) marginally suppress wage levels of native-born Americans without a high school diploma, and impose significant costs on some state and local governments.

However the estimated wage suppression and fiscal costs are relatively small, and economists generally view the overall economic benefits of this workforce as significantly
outweighing the costs. Accordingly, I hope some temporary worker program can be crafted.”

You can read the whole speech at http://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/greenspan_testimony_04_30_09.pdf.

You can disagree with me, but it might be slightly more difficult to argue with then Chairman Greenspan.

I will now stop pushing my fictitious liberal ideas on you and shut off the dialogue, though I think what makes America great is the willingness of its citizens to engage in dialogue, oh and immigration of course!
