Maybe the President and his Department of Homeland Security Chief should spend a little time getting their stories straight on President Obama’s recent amnesty edict. Or perhaps it doesn’t matter the President can say one thing to one audience and the DHS Secretary can say the complete opposite to Congress when it comes to unconstitutional “executive actions.”
Incoming chairman of the House Oversight Committee Jason Chaffetz rather cleverly demonstrated this stunning hypocrisy during DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson’s testimony yesterday:
“My question to you Mr. Secretary is: what do you say to someone who believes the president took action to change the law?” the Utah Republican asked Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson during a committee hearing .
“We did not change the law, we acted within the law,” Johnson asserted.
Chaffetz then played a video clip of Obama telling immigration protesters on November 25 that he had “changed the law.”
“So you say he didn’t change the law but the president says he changed the law,” Chaffetz said. Johnson bristled and repeated his assertion that Obama “acted within existing law.”
