Breitbart — President Barack Obama’s administration has reportedly suspended a program it enacted via executive action last month that would allow recipients of Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to join the U.S. military.
According to a Thursday Politico report, Army officials confirmed that the MAVNI (Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest) program “has been suspended while the service tries to finalize screening procedures for the immigrants who want to enlist.”
Last month, the Obama administration, via executive action, expanded the program—which allows “foreign nationals with high-demand skills, mostly rare foreign language expertise, or specialized health care training”—to allow DACA recipients entry into the military. The Obama administration determined that MAVNI would now be ”open to immigrants without a proper visa if they came to the U.S. with their parents before age 16″ and received temporary amnesty through DACA in 2012.
