Over 3,700 ‘Threat Level 1’ illegal immigrant criminals the Department of Homeland Security had held in custody were released into the U.S. last year. These “Threat Level 1″ criminals, considered the best candidates for deportation, were freed while their immigration cases were still being heard.
According to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, over 55 percent of the criminals released could have been kept but were chosen to be released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE officials promise that the criminals are still being supervised through electronic ankle bracelets. However, the track record for electronic monitoring has not been successful.
In 2014, 41,000 immigrants were monitored electronically, and more than 30,000 of them broke the rules of their release.
“The Obama administration’s lax enforcement policies are reckless and needlessly endanger our communities,” said Goodlatte to the Washington Times.
