King Votes “NO” on Democrats’ Attempt to “Make Amnesty Great Again”
“I voted NO on HR 6 because we can’t help President Trump ‘Make America Great Again’ if we let the Democrats succeed in ‘Making Amnesty Great Again.’”

Washington, D.C.-  Congressman Steve King releases this statement after voting “NO” on HR 6, legislation introduced by House Democrats that provides a sweeping Amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. According to  an analysis of HR 6  released by the Office of the Republican Whip, “eligibility requirements are so broad that anywhere from 2 to 4 million illegal aliens of any age” could benefit from the Amnesty provided in HR 6.
“By bringing HR 6 to the floor for a vote, House Democrats have shown they are chomping at the bit to undermine the Rule of Law in order to ‘Make Amnesty Great Again,’”  said King. “The Democrats know that their mass amnesty legislation has no chance at becoming law, but they moved it to the floor anyway because they can’t control their open-borders impulses.”

Like President Trump, I know that our country needs an immigration policy that puts America’s needs first and the desires of illegal aliens last. HR 6 does the opposite. The Democrats’ bill will even encourage illegal immigration because it doesn’t even contain one single penny for greater border security. I voted NO on HR 6 because we can’t help President Trump ‘Make America Great Again’ if we let the Democrats succeed in ‘Making Amnesty Great Again.’”

In addition to the remarks above, King spoke on the House floor today in opposition to the Democrats’ Amnesty legislation.
Congressman King has significant influence in Congress over immigration and border security policy, and King led efforts in the prior Congress to successfully defeat two separate Amnesty bills.
King’s leadership on this issue has not gone unnoticed. John and Andy Schlafly, conservative activists and the sons of conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, have publicly proposed a test Americans can use to determine whether an immigration bill should become law. Under the Schlafly Test , “no bill on immigration is worth supporting unless Representatives Steve King [R-Iowa] and Lou Barletta [R-Penn.] are on board.”
