Dear Migrant Trail Walk Organizers,
We, Americans of Hispanic ancestry have a clear understanding of your mission and applaud your noble passion to the dangerous aspects of our borders. However, if you truly sense a spiritual commitment for the human dignity of these poor impoverished people, I strongly encourage you to focus on educating them how to protest their corrupt governments and make changes in their own Homeland; Essentially, this will eliminate their need for inhumane journeys which often lead to tragedy including death. Why not orchestrate your walks addressing Mexico which is an extremely wealthy country. It is rich in natural resources, oil, coal, etc. Why not bear witness to the tragedies that concern you before they occur, in their place of origin. Hope & Change can be accomplished in their native land, if they are given the same inspiration, and the same guidance by underscoring the precarious reality of a corrupt Mexico in contrast to your defiance of secure borders which is our right as a sovereign nation. Your mission, as eminent and noteworthy as it appears, defies both logic & reason.
Americans are compassionate and benevolent, and subsequently without prejudice, welcome everyone to the land of opportunity. In point of fact, if all organizations committed to working together for the human dignity of all peoples) would demand that their own governments provide for their citizens, all inhumanity, all the tragedies & all the senseless deaths would no longer tarry within our midst.
If saving lives is the genuine purpose of your intended mission, why not focus on the root of the problem? Their Homeland…..
Inhumanity you say? Pressure their government. God knows you have had ample practice here in my Homeland, the United States of America.
Respectfully yours,
Al Garza
Mestizo born, proud American
Our Vision The precarious reality of our borderlands calls us to walk. We are a spiritually diverse, multi-cultural group who walk together on a journey of peace to remember people, friends and family who have died, others who have crossed, and people who continue to come. We bear witness to the tragedy of death and of the inhumanity in our midst. Lastly, we make this sacred journey as a community, in defiance of the borders that attempt to divide us, committed to working together for the human dignity of all peoples.
